ENJOYING HAND TOOLS

Updated: Oct 27, 2019

A few days of using noisy machinery in the workshop to prepare timber for a project and I’m ready to enjoy the peace and quiet of the orchard surrounding the workshop.

Making mortice and tenon joints using a Japanese chisel and my homemade mallet is very soothing process. Japanese tools are a newish addition to the workshop and I wonder how I ever managed without these single bevel chisels and balanced Kataba saws.

These joints form part of the base of a console table that places all the emphasis on the beautiful rich grain of the top.
